Convenient Sun Protection Over Your Everyday Glasses

Switching between prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses can be inconvenient, particularly when moving between indoor and outdoor environments. Clip-on sunglasses provide a simple alternative by attaching to compatible eyeglass frames when additional sun protection is needed.

Depending on the selected model, clip-on sunglasses can be useful for:

Driving during bright daytime conditions
Walking and commuting outdoors
Beach and recreational activities
Fishing and outdoor leisure
Travel and sightseeing
Everyday use in changing light conditions

CA Glasses offers clip-on designs in different shapes and lens configurations, so the right choice depends on your existing frame, prescription requirements and intended use.

How Clip-on Sunglasses Work

Clip-on sunglasses are designed to attach directly to an existing pair of eyeglasses. Depending on the design, the sunglasses may use a detachable clip, flip-up mechanism or another attachment system.

A properly fitted clip-on should remain stable while you move without placing excessive pressure on the underlying frame. Before purchasing, compare the clip-on dimensions with the measurements of your current glasses.

Check:

Lens width
Bridge width
Overall frame width
Lens shape
Attachment position
Clearance between the clip-on and your prescription lenses

A clip-on that is too wide, narrow or differently shaped may not sit correctly even if it appears similar to your existing glasses.

Choosing the Right Lens Type

CA Glasses offers clip-on products with different prescription lens configurations. The available option depends on the individual product.

Single-Vision Clip-on Sunglasses

Single-vision lenses provide one prescription correction across the lens and may be suitable for shoppers who use a single prescription for distance, intermediate or near vision.

Bifocal Clip-on Sunglasses

Bifocal options provide two distinct areas of vision correction within the lens. They may be suitable for people who need both distance and near correction.

Progressive Clip-on Sunglasses

Progressive lenses provide multiple prescription powers across the lens without a visible dividing line. The availability and prescription range can vary by product.

Always check the individual product page for supported prescription powers and ordering requirements before selecting a lens type.

Polarized Clip-on Sunglasses

Polarized lenses are available on many CA Glasses clip-on models. Polarization is designed to reduce certain types of reflected glare, which can be useful around reflective surfaces such as roads, water and other bright outdoor environments.

Polarization does not replace prescription correction, and it should not be assumed that every clip-on model is polarized. Check the product specifications to confirm whether polarized lenses are included with the selected model.

For activities such as driving, fishing or spending time near water, consider the lighting conditions and the lens features listed for the specific product.

Finding the Right Fit

The fit of a clip-on depends on both the clip-on dimensions and the shape of your existing eyeglasses.

Before ordering, compare the product measurements with your current frame. Pay particular attention to:

Lens width
Bridge width
Frame shape
Overall frame dimensions
Clip or attachment position
Space between the prescription lens and clip-on

The clip-on should sit evenly over the front of your glasses without covering your field of vision or putting unnecessary pressure on the frame.

If your prescription glasses have an unusual shape, very large lenses or a frame design that does not match the clip-on, check the product measurements carefully before ordering.

Flip-Up and Detachable Designs

Selected CA Glasses products feature dual detachable and flip-up clip-on designs. These configurations can make it easier to move between shaded and brighter environments without removing your prescription glasses.

A flip-up design can be useful when you need to temporarily move the tinted lens away from your line of sight. A detachable design allows the sunglasses portion to be removed when it is not needed.

Because the attachment system differs by product, review the product description and images before choosing a particular design.

Lens Features and Coatings

Different CA Glasses clip-on models may include additional lens features such as:

Polarized lenses
Scratch-resistant lenses
Anti-glare coating
Prescription correction
Bifocal lenses
Progressive lenses
Single-vision lenses

Not every product includes all of these features. Review the specifications of the individual product to confirm the available lens configuration and coating.

Scratch resistance can help reduce everyday surface marks, but it does not make lenses impossible to scratch. Similarly, an anti-glare coating is intended to manage reflections from the lens surface and should not be treated as a substitute for other lens features.

Clip-on Sunglasses for Driving and Outdoor Use

Clip-on sunglasses can be convenient for people who already wear prescription glasses and need additional shading outdoors.

For daytime driving, choose a model that provides a clear view through the lens and is appropriate for the lighting conditions. Avoid relying only on lens colour or darkness when assessing suitability.

For outdoor activities such as fishing, walking or beach trips, consider:

Glare conditions
Lens tint
Polarization
Prescription requirements
Frame stability
Fit over your existing glasses

Always check the product specifications for the exact lens features before ordering.

Caring for Your Clip-on Sunglasses

Proper care can help keep the lenses and attachment mechanism in good condition.

Rinse the lenses with clean water when needed to remove loose dust and debris.
Use a lens-safe cleaning solution and a clean microfiber cloth.
Avoid wiping the lenses with clothing, paper towels or other rough materials.
Handle the clip or flip-up mechanism carefully.
Store the clip-on in a protective case when it is not being used.
Avoid placing the lenses face-down on hard surfaces.
Follow any care instructions supplied with the individual product.

Do not use household glass cleaners or harsh chemicals unless they are specifically approved for your lenses.

Before Ordering Clip-on Sunglasses

Before placing your order, compare the following details on the individual product page:

Compatible frame dimensions
Lens width and bridge measurements
Frame shape
Prescription range
Single-vision, bifocal or progressive availability
Polarized lens availability
Lens coatings
Clip or flip-up design
Lens colour
Frame material
Care instructions

If you already own prescription glasses, keep their measurements available when comparing products. This can help you select a clip-on that sits more naturally over your existing frame.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are clip-on sunglasses?

Clip-on sunglasses are removable sunglass lenses designed to attach to compatible eyeglasses. They allow you to add a sunglass lens to your existing eyewear instead of changing to a separate pair.

Can I use clip-on sunglasses over prescription glasses?

Yes, clip-on sunglasses are designed to be used over compatible prescription eyeglasses. However, compatibility depends on the size and shape of your existing frame, so check the product measurements before ordering.

Are clip-on sunglasses available with prescription lenses?

Yes. CA Glasses offers clip-on products with prescription lens configurations, including selected single-vision, bifocal and progressive options. Availability varies by product.

Are CA Glasses clip-on sunglasses polarized?

Many models in the CA Glasses collection feature polarized lenses, but polarization is not available on every eyewear product. Check the individual product specifications before ordering.

Can I use clip-on sunglasses for driving?

Clip-on sunglasses can be convenient for daytime driving when the selected lens provides suitable visibility for the conditions. Check the specific lens features and tint before using them for driving.

Will clip-on sunglasses fit any eyeglasses?

No. Clip-on compatibility depends on the dimensions and shape of your existing glasses. Compare the clip-on's lens width, bridge and overall dimensions with your current frame before ordering.

What is the difference between flip-up and detachable clip-ons?

A flip-up design allows the sunglass lens to move away from the front of your glasses while remaining attached. A detachable design allows the sunglass portion to be removed when it is not needed.

Are clip-on sunglasses good for outdoor activities?

They can be a convenient option for outdoor activities when the frame fits securely and the lens features suit the environment. Consider factors such as brightness, glare, polarization and prescription requirements.

How do I know which clip-on size I need?

Compare the clip-on's lens width, bridge measurement and overall dimensions with your existing eyeglasses. The shape of the lenses should also be considered because two frames with similar measurements may still fit differently.

How should I clean clip-on sunglasses?

Rinse away loose debris, use a lens-safe cleaning solution and dry the lenses with a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive materials and harsh household cleaners.

Can I use clip-on sunglasses with bifocal glasses?

Yes, selected CA Glasses clip-on products support bifocal prescriptions. Check the individual product details to confirm the available lens configuration and prescription range.

Do clip-on sunglasses protect against UV rays?

UV protection depends on the specific lens and product specifications. Review the verified UV information for the individual CA Glasses product rather than assuming all clip-on lenses provide the same level of UV protection.
